Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found many other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the community for details.
An important political figure commented the incident left him stunned and required to be resolved promptly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
